When we're not getting enough sleep, our bodies produce excess ghrelin, the hunger hormone. This leads us to feel hungrier than we normally would be, and we think we need food because our body is running on fumes. But on the other hand, sleeping too much can also put you at risk for weight gain. This is because constantly oversleeping disrupts your body's natural circadian rhythm and throws off all its processes, leaving you in a perpetual state of "syncing" up to the right time. 

The ideal amount of sleep for adults is 7-9 hours maximum per night.
