Popcorn can now be found in movie theaters around the world, but don't expect to find it covered in butter! Apparently, buttered popcorn is uniquely American—though our northern neighbors also have a taste for it. Popcorn became the ultimate movie snack in the 1930s, as "talkies," or movies with sound, made the cinema more popular with everyday people. In fact, popcorn and other concessions are credited with helping movie theaters survive the Great Depression.
