Recycle Effectively

Check out the recycling laws of your area, and make a recycling station in the kitchen with separate containers for garbage, paper, glass and plastic. If you make it just as easy to recycle as to throw things in the garbage, (and not have to sort it out later) you will be much more likely to do so, while using your space efficiently.
