Switch to smaller plates

According to this article by the The New York Times: "Adults consistently consume more food when given larger portions, plates or silverware, a large review of studies has found." To avoid overeating at mealtimes, try switching out large dinner plates for slightly smaller ones. In doing so, you can fill the smaller plate with a reasonable amount of food, and it will look like a bigger portion than if you put the same serving on a larger plate. This can help you feel fuller and less tempted to go for seconds, which in turn, leaves you with leftovers and reduces your food budget. It's a win-win all around.
