Duck eggs: edible but need to be well cooked

Duck eggs are actually perfectly edible. They taste a bit more intense and hearty than chicken eggs and have therefore long been considered a delicacy.
However, ducks only lay eggs in the springtime, between February and May. In addition, ducks are more demanding than chickens when it comes to caretaking. They absolutely need a place to swim and bathe, which makes them less suitable to industrial egg production.
If you live near a farm with ducks, you can always ask whether you can purchase a few of their eggs from time to time. However, they should never be consumed raw, as they've been associated with high levels of salmonella in the past.
