Scotch Eggs - England
Scotch eggs are a popular English pub and picnic food that consists of a boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat that's breaded and fried. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a dish of Scottish origin, but British, and it's typically served cold. The backstory of its creation varies, with some believing it evolved from Indian koftas, while London's famous department store Fortnum & Mason claims it invented scotch eggs in 1738 for rich travelers. Regardless, they're a must-try when in England.
Where to eat: Although there are numerous great pubs to choose from, The Harwood Arms is particularly reputed for its signature scotch egg made with moist venison, a gooey egg yolk and Maldon salt sprinkled on top.
