April Fool's: Recipes that Aren't What They Seem

Dessert Pizza

Pizza for dessert? Yes, please! This version looks savory, but it's actually covered in deliciously sweet toppings like marshmallows, jam and white chocolate for the ultimate treat to delight your loved ones.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
  • 3 tbsp fresh baker's yeast
  • 2 3/4 cups wheat flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups butter, chilled and cut into pieces
  • 5 oz. strawberry jam
  • 6 marshmallows
  • 3 squares of white chocolate, shaved
  • 15 black grapes
  • A few basil leaves

 

Instructions:

  1. Combine the milk with the baker's yeast in a bowl.
  2. Add the flour, salt, milk-yeast combo, powdered sugar and eggs to a large mixing bowl and knead into a dough using a stand mixer or electric hand mixer.
  3. Add the butter and continue to mix.
  4. Cover the dough with a clean dishtowel and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Roll out the dough into a circle on parchment paper and bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven, spread the strawberry jam over the dough and decorate with marshmallows, white chocolate shavings, grapes and basil leaves.
  7. Enjoy!

These fun Tropical Salmon Sushi Cups make the perfect warm-weather appetizer!

 

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 tbsp seasame oil
  • 1 tsp chili paste
  • Salt
  • 1 mango, diced
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1 lb salmon, diced

Method

  1. Combine the rice vinegar and sugar.
  2. Stir though the cooked sushi rice, and with wet hands, shape into balls.
  3. Press the balls into ramekins lined with parchment paper, and press the rice up the sides of the ramekins into cup shapes.
  4. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  5. In the meantime, combine the soy sauce, cilantro, sesame oil, chili paste and salt in a bowl.
  6. Combine the mango, avocado and salmon.
  7. Pour the soy mixture over the salmon mixture, and stir through until evenly coated.
  8. Remove the rice cups from the refrigerator, and peel off the parchment paper.
  9. Distribute the salmon mixture between the rice cups.
  10. Garnish, serve and enjoy!
