Cheesecake

Cheesecake if one of our fave desserts, and it's been around a lot longer than you probably realise!

A variation of the biscuit-based dish was popular among the ancient Greeks, when honey and wheat was combined (sometimes with fresh cheese and flour) and then baked.

In ancient Rome, cheesecakes with honey and a cheese dough base, often known as 'libum' or 'placenta', were popular. Over the centuries, cheesecakes have developed and been adapted depending on different traditions.

In Europe, especially in France and England, cheesecakes gained popularity from the 17th century onwards. Back then, the cakes were usually made using crispy cookie or shortcrust pastry dough as a base, and were filled with mixtures of cheese, eggs, and sugar.

In the United States, cheesecake got big during the 19th century - especially in the New York region. Since then, the 'New York Cheesecake' has become famous around the globe due to its signature rich and creamy texture. Yum!
