Curry
Who doesn't loves a curry? Some believe the dish dates back to the Indian sub-contined around the 3rd century B.C as certain ancient Indian texts, such as The Vedas and The Puranas, make reference to mixing spices and herbs.
The term 'curry' encompasses a wide range of dishes with various combinations of spices, herbs, and other ingredients that originate in different regions in India and south Asian countries. In those regions however, each curry dish has a specific name.
The word was invented by the British however, when India was under colonial rule. Some say that 'curry' is the Anglicized version of the Tamil word 'kari' which means sauce.
British colonization has also meant that chicken tikka massala, a mild curry created by Indian migrants to Britain in order to appeal to a British palate, is now the U.K's favorite dish!
