Smashburgers have taken America by storm in recent years, and it's time to bring them to your Memorial Day festivities. Gone are the days of boring burgers, so try adding grilled onions, mushrooms, or even onion rings to your smashburger!
Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Make sure it's hot before you start cooking the patties.
Season each portion of beef with salt and pepper. Place half of the beef onto the hot griddle or skillet. Use a large spatula to press down firmly on the beef to smash it into a thin patty. The edges should start to get crispy. Repeat with the remaining portion of beef.
Cook the patties for about 2-3 min. on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to allow it to melt.
While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the King's Hawaiian hamburger buns on the griddle or skillet until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
Place the patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add desired toppings: ketchup, raw onions, yellow mustard, pickles, and mayo.
Place the top half of each bun over the toppings to complete the burgers. Serve immediately while they're hot and enjoy your juicy, crispy-edged smashburgers!
