Artisan Bread

This crusty, golden-brown artisan loaf is easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. Baked in a Dutch oven, the steam creates a crisp crust while the inside remains soft and airy. This simple recipe yields the perfect bread for sharing at family meals or alongside your favorite soups.

Ingredients (for 1 loaf):

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and yeast. Slowly add the warm water, mixing until a sticky dough forms. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let it rise at room temperature for 12-18 hours, until the dough is bubbly and has doubled in size.
  2. Once the dough has risen, preheat your oven to 450°F and place a 6-quart Dutch oven with the lid inside to heat for 30 min.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a ball. Let it rest for 30 min. while the Dutch oven heats.
  4. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven and place the dough inside. Cover with the lid and bake for 30 min.
  5. After 30 min. and remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 min. until the crust is golden and crisp.
  6. Remove the loaf from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
