Spicy arrabbiata is a robust, fiery tomato sauce made with garlic, tomatoes, and red pepper flakes for an extra kick. This simple yet flavorful sauce pairs perfectly with pasta or can be used as a topping for pizza or roasted vegetables.
Ingredients (for 4 servings):
2 tbsp olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
½ tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped (optional)
Instructions:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for 1-2 min. until fragrant, but not browned.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and oregano. Stir to combine.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 min., stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
Stir in the fresh basil (if using) and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve over your favorite pasta or use as a spicy base for pizza.
