Morels

Morels are a type of mushroom and an elegant, delicious addition to a multitude of dishes, often found in French Provençal cuisine. However, proper preparation and serving style must be observed when using them. Also remember they can be toxic when consumed raw, so always cook them first! To prepare, start by rinsing them, then cutting in half. Lightly saute the mushrooms in butter with minced shallots and cook until heated through. Serve in pasta dishes or add cream when sauteing and spoon them on top of a good steak or piece of chicken. Avoid eating them while drinking alcohol, as the combination is thought to cause an upset stomach due to trace amounts of a toxin called hydrazine contained in the morels (it's removed through cooking, but it's better to be on the safe side).
