Are Microwave Ovens Dangerous?

Damaged or modified microwaves: a risk

A microwave oven in good working order can only heat food when it is turned on and the door is closed, but damage and improper use can increase the chances of leakage. If your microwave has broken seals, is warped, bent or can be activated when the door is open, then you should stop using it until it can be fixed or replaced.  We recommend regularly inspecting your appliance and cleaning it with gentle, non-abrasive products.
