Consider this the Middle Eastern version of lasagna. Made with eggplant or potatoes, ground meat and tomato, it's made by layering the ingredients and often comes served in hefty squares. Greek recipes also call for adding a top layer of bechamel sauce. Although it won't kill your diet if consumed sparingly, it is a very calorie-dense food, with just 1 cup clocking in at 550 calories and 40 grams of fat. Considering that's about the nutritional equivalent to a fast food burger, it's definitely not a healthy alternative.
