The Coffee Beans Are Already Ground

If possible, you should always buy your coffee beans whole and then grind them fresh, right before you make your coffee. The moments the beans are ground, they start releasing their flavors, so if the beans are ground days or weeks in advance, much of their taste will be gone before you ever decide to brew it. If you don't want to invest in a coffee grinder, you can often find supermarkets or coffee shops that will grind the beans at the time of purchase, so they're at least a little fresher than if you buy them pre-ground.
