Popped Grains

You might be surprised to learn that you can pop other things besides corn kernels. Puffed whole grains, in particular are growing in popularity both for their health benefits and ease of preparation. You can even pop quinoa, barley, spelt, wheat berries, farro and millet! But the closest substitute you'll get to popcorn is probably sorghum. This plant grain is quickly moving away from the shadows of the health food aisle and becoming one of our favorite new foods, thanks in part to the recent trend for adorable puffed mini popcorn bites. It is significantly smaller than popcorn in volume but it has a nice sweet flavor and adjusts well to seasonings. Get all the info on popped sorghum here.
