If you have kids, you probably know how hard it is to take them to nice places. Suffice it to say that if the restaurant has white tablecloths and no kids' menu, you're better off skipping that one in favor of something more family-friendly. Those that do cater to kids shouldn't be taken for granted, however. At no time is it ever acceptable to let your kids run aimlessly around the restaurant (not to mention how dangerous that is), "play" with the salt and pepper shakers or make any other food-related messes for that matter. Many restaurants have kids menus that double as coloring books, and they usually provide crayons or colored pencils to go with them. That should help distract them, but you might also consider ordering their food right away so they don't throw hunger tantrums or get bored and start making a racket.
