Get To Know Your Icing

While your cookies are fresh out of the oven and cooling, this is the time to start prepping your icing artistry. Before you start piping out icing all over your cookies, you need to make sure you're comfortable with the consistency of the icing, the piping bag or tube that you're using, and the shapes and designs that you want to create. Do some experiments on a piece of foil or wax paper to test out your skills first. (If you act quickly before the icing hardens, you can scrape it back into your collection and use it on your cookies, so that no icing goes to waste.) Then when it's showtime, you're confident and ready to start decorating like a pro!
