Overbaked Cookies

Nothing ruins the anticipation you've built over a batch of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven than biting into one and realizing it's dry, hard and devoid of that "fresh-baked" flavor. Fortunately, there a few things you can do to reverse the results. Put the cookies into an airtight container with a slice of bread on the bottom and on the top. Let them sit for at least 24 hours before opening. The cookies should have absorbed moisture from the bread and taken on a much softer texture. A quicker fix would be to wrap 2 or 3 cookies in damp paper towels and microwave in 10-second bursts. Take them out and serve as soon as they've reached the desired softness.
