Margaret Thatcher Invented Soft Serve Ice Cream
Probably one of the strangest junk food myths we've ever heard is that British former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher invented soft serve ice cream. This myth was even repeated in an official address during her funeral! The story goes that Thatcher was previously a scientist before turning to politics (true) and after university in 1947, worked for a food and drink development company (also true), where she helped come up with the aeration process that Mr. Whippy used in their trucks for soft serve ice cream (er, unsubstantiated). The truth is that the technique had already been invented by J.F. McCullough and Tom Carvel in 1938—the two men were the founders and owners of Dairy Queen and Carvel, respectively.
