It Offers Fewer Choices, with Higher Satisfaction

The average size of Trader Joe's stores is approximately 15,000 square feet, which pales in comparison to the Eastern US's supermarket giant Wegman's, which boasts of stores ranging in size from 75,000 to 140,000 square feet. While this may seem like a disadvantage, Trader Joe's isn't trying to be a gargantuan, never-ending foodie paradise, instead remaining staunchly faithful to its tagline as "your neighborhood grocery store." The brand implements a very product-driven strategy marked by careful curation of items that perform well and getting rid of those that don't. It also limits the majority of its products to in-store brands. Despite having fewer choices, studies have shown that consumers prefer this product scheme more than having too many options to choose from. Regardless, you usually know what you're going there for, which makes grocery shopping an overall more efficient and smooth experience.
