Le Cirque
Although no longer in its original location at the Mayfair Hotel in New York City, Le Cirque was one of the poshest French restaurants in the Big Apple for more than 40 years, churning out illustrious chefs including Daniel Boulud and Jacques Torres, among others. Today, the restaurant's future is less than certain. But back in 1981, the New York Times reported Ronald Reagan hosted a fancy dinner there after the theater. Owner Sirio Maccioni and his crew had to roll out a lavish meal of scallops with coral roe from Brittany, Spanish scampi, various meat pâtés, fresh-cut noodles with wild mushrooms and prosciutto, frozen lemon soufflés and red apples made of blown sugar. Numerous health and safety inspections had been carried out by multiple government departments and services before the event. It's certainly not your average Saturday night dinner!
