Being unresponsive when the food arrives

One server pointed out how unresponsive diners can be when the food gets to the table: "When I am running someone else’s food and I call out the name of the dish and they just stare blankly back at me." In many restaurants, servers will come with several hot plates on their arms (which is a lot harder than it looks), and it's not always going to be your server. Food runners are there to "run food" when it arrives in the kitchen expo window, and they may not be familiar with who ordered what. Know what you ordered, and pay attention when the food arrives. Most of the time they'll announce each dish, so speak up or make a gesture if it's yours.
