Warning Signs that Tell You When Your Food Has Gone Bad

Fresh Fruit

Fruit is one of the easier foods to examine for possible spoilage, which is most commonly confirmed by a change in texture and color. Mushiness, extreme discoloring, wrinkly skin, the presence of mold or a foul odor are all signs that fruit is no longer edible. That being said, some fruits, such as bananas, may change in color and texture and still be okay to eat—bananas with peels that have turned black means they are overly ripe, and their mushy texture makes them an excellent candidate for baked goods, such as banana bread. Citrus fruits are harder to evaluate, but you can tell if they're bad once you cut them open, and they can also spout mold on the skin.
