M&M's

M&M's are a popular candy year-round, but their fun-sized packages are an easy-to-distribute staple of Halloween stashes across the US. Apparently inspired by the British-made Smarties, M&M's were first produced in 1941 under the company M&M Limited. When WWII hit, the candy was sold uniquely to the US Army, who gave it to their soldiers because it didn't melt easily in hot climates. Its popularity continued to rise thereafter, and today, it's one of the most popular and more recognizable candies around the world. M&M's has since released multiple varieties, including peanut, peanut butter, crispy, etc., in addition to limited edition holiday versions.
