How to have fun at a party where you don't know anyone

It's probably happened to you at least once in your lifetime: when you find yourself at a party and don't know anyone. No need to panic! It could be a great opportunity to make new friends. The biggest obstacle to overcome is getting rid of the awkwardness you feel in the beginning of the evening: nothing is more uncomfortable than feeling like all eyes are on you and needing to be on top of your game. 

Here's some advice for how to survive any party on your own:

1. Befriend the host
As long as you know the host, you're good! He or she can present you to everyone else, and it won't seem weird that you're there...

2. Be a good listener

Sure, eating and drinking at a party is a good way to occupy yourself when you feel uncomfortable, but it isn't the smartest or healthiest thing to do. Get one drink, and nurse it. That way, you look approachable, and you can pay attention to what others are saying. And you'll avoid turning into the crazy drunk person that nobody knows...

3. For the most extroverted...

If you're naturally a social creature, get out there and do the talking yourself. By making people laugh and being truly interested in getting to know them, you'll feel more comfortable immediately! Just be aware of yourself, and make sure you're not talking too much (to the point where no one else can get a word in edgewise).
