It's nice to support a friend's business, but you shouldn't eat there just to name-drop to your server. Rule of thumb: knowing the owner or the manager doesn't necessarily lead to special treatment! Don't expect discounts or free food, unless your friend offers them voluntarily (and only if he or she is the one in charge).
