Not being careful with raw seafood

Seafood—and in particular those types that are going to be eaten raw such as oysters, ceviche or sushi—is known to be a common cause of food poisoning. Cooking should kill any contamination caused by poor handling, but you should be especially hygienic and careful when preparing seafood that will be served raw. Those vulnerable to food poisoning (think pregnant women, young children, elderly people or those with a reduced immune system) should steer clear of these foods. And if you are going to consume raw seafood, always purchase it from a reliable, quality source.
