Box up half your meal at restaurants

Over the years, restaurant portion sizes in the US have grown to two or three times the recommended amount for one person in one sitting. In many cases, this can lead to "portion distortion", a concept that suggests people will consume more food when given larger portions. The normalization of large restaurant portions has also led to growing portions at home. And in turn, when you have a distorted view of what a normal portion of food is, you may be less likely to listen to your body's hunger cues, specifically when it tells you that you're full.

To avoid unwanted weight gain from dining out, try asking your server to box up half your meal before they even bring it out. This way, you can take the rest home to eat later and you also avoid the other major problem of food waste. Not to mention, you get two meals for the price of one.
