Lose the bun

On average, one large hamburger bun contains about 140 calories. You can replace the bun with lettuce or simply enjoy the hamburger with its toppings and no bun. The same goes for sandwiches—replace bread or tortillas with healthy greens like Bibb or butter lettuce. Mustard greens, collard greens or Swiss chard also work, though you'll probably want to briefly blanch them in simmering water to make them more pliable.

If you must have bread, simply remove the top bun or one slice of bread to make an open-faced burger or sandwich. Doing this will keep you satisfied and still shave calories from your meal.
