When You Want to Spice Things Up...

Sprinkle on some crushed red pepper, either directly into the pasta sauce, or when serving. Italians frequently add crushed peperoncini (Italian crushed red pepper flakes) to their dishes, although they use it in moderation, as more of a flavor enhancer rather than purely for its spice properties. You can also set out a little bowl of it alongside the salt and pepper and let everyone season to their taste.
