Coffee
If you're not taking various factors into account when making coffee, you're missing out on its potential for greatness. Using the wrong coffee-to-water ratio is one big no-no. Experts recommend using 60 grams of coffee for every liter of water (a kitchen scale comes in handy here). Also, quit buying pre-ground coffee. Get a manual bladed grinder (or an electric one, if you can afford it), and use it to get the freshest grounds. And don't store them in the fridge or freezer because this will mess with the texture and taste. Instead, keep coffee grounds in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If using drip coffee, rinse your filter with hot water before brewing. As for manual preparations, turn off the kettle before the water boils, to prevent it from burning your coffee grounds and leaving your cup of joe with a bitter taste.
