Kurtoskalacs - Hungary

If you've got a sweet tooth while in Hungary, stop and get yourself a delicious kürt?skalács. This popular Hungarian pastry, known in English as a "chimney cake", is made of sweet yeast dough that's spun in strips around a cone-shaped baking spit and then coated in granulated sugar. The dough is roasted over charcoal and basted in butter until the exterior turns golden-brown, while the sugar crystals caramelize and give it a nice shiny crust. These yummy cakes can be eaten on their own or topped with various ingredients.

Where to eat: It might be in the center of Budapest's ultra touristy Vaci street, but Molnar's kurtoskalacs remains one of the best spots in the capital to try an authentic made-to-order chimney cake.
