Wine
Just like beer, some of the oldest traces of wine date back thousands of years! Here are a few wine-related discoveries that have been made in recent times ...
1. Armenia. In 2011, traces of wine dating back to approximately 4,000 B.C. were discovered in a cave in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia. This makes Armenia a likely contender in being one of the oldest places to have produced wine.
2. Georgia. Another region known for its ancient winemaking links, is the country of Georgia. In 2017, traces of wine were found in ceramic vessels dating back to approximately 6,000 B.C. in the village of Gadachrili. These findings support the claim that Georgia has been a center of wine production for millennia!
3. Iran. At the archaeological site of Hajji Firuz Tepe in Iran, traces of wine stored in vessels were found dating back to approximately 5,400 B.C. The remains indicate that its production and consumption were rooted in the ancient civilization of Persia.
4. China. In the Henan region of China, wine residue was found in vessels estimated to date back as far as 7,000 B.C.F, so it's likely wine was made in that area of the world too!
