The oldest empire in the world can claim paternity for this popular ingredient. In China, for at least 1,000 years, pasta is known to have been made from rice or broad beans! Asian noodles do resemble pasta, so it's no huge surprise when you think about it.
In the 13th century, Marco Polo brought pasta from China to Europe after an expedition carried out with his uncles Nicolas and Mafeo Polo. And the rest is history!
