The most common theory states that ice cream was already eaten in the Chinese empire 4,000 years ago. It's said that back then, the Chinese way of preparing  ice cream was mixing snow brought from the mountains with rice, fruit, honey, and spiced, and that is was an exclusive delicacy of high society due to how particular its preperation was. 

Apparently, there were ice bars in the Imperial Palace, where various flavors of ice cream were produced for the Emperor. 

Over time, the ice conservation technique was improved, and Marco Polo took it to Italy, giving ice cream the opportunity it needed to become the dessert we all love today. Thanks, Marco!
