The Leftover Thanksgiving Sandwich from 'Friends'
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and there's obviously only one way of using up all those leftovers in the refrigerator the following day — by recreating the legendary 'Moist Maker' sandwich.
Featured in the hit sitcom 'Friends', the sandwich is an impressive invention deemed as "the best leftover turkey Thanksgiving sandwich" by the show's character, Ross.
Unfortunately, Ross is unable to get his hands on one that year, let's make sure the same doesn't happen to you this time round. Here's how to replicate the classic, and don't forget to add the extra slice of gravy-soaked bread in the middle!
Ingredients (for 3 people):
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp turkey fat
- 1/2 chopped thyme
- 1/2 chopped rosemary
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tsp mustard
- 2 tsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tsp chopped fresh chives
- 9 sliced of sandwich bread
- 3 cups shredded turkey meat
- 3 tbsp cranberry sauce
- 3 tbsp mashed potatoes
- 3 tbsp turkey stuffing
- 2 cups arugula
Instructions:
- Add 1 tsp butter to a skillet on medium-heat. Once the butter begins to melt, add the flour and cook until it browns and forms a dough.
- Add the turkey fat, thyme, rosemary, salt and pepper, and cook over medium heat for 3 min.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth while stirring, and wait for it to come to a boil. Lower the heat to thicken it. Cook over low heat for 10 min. before removing from heat. If it is too thick, you can add a little more broth.
- In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the mustard, parsley, and chives. Spread the herbed mayonnaise onto 6 slices of bread. Take the other 3 and cover in gravy.
- Top one bun with shredded turkey before adding a dollop of cranberry sauce. Top with the bread soaked in gravy, then with mashed potatoes, turkey stuffing, and arugula. Place another slice on top to finish off the sandwhich.
- Enjoy!
