Ingredients (for 8 buns):
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm water (110°F)
- 3 large eggs, room temperature
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened and cut into pieces
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 min. until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and 3 eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
- Add the butter, a few pieces at a time, kneading the dough until the butter is fully incorporated. Continue kneading for about 10 min. until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten each ball slightly.
- Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 min. or until they have puffed up.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Beat the remaining egg with a tbsp of water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Bake for 15-20 min. or until golden brown.
- Let the buns cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving, and enjoy while fresh!
