Buttermilk Biscuits

These easy buttermilk biscuits are the perfect delicious breakfast staple with their soft, flaky, and buttery texture. Perfectly paired with jam or gravy, these biscuits can be made with minimal effort, making them a must-try for any home baker with a busy schedule. Throw together these simple seven-ingredient biscuits in less than a half hour!

Ingredients (for 6-8 biscuits):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk, plus more for brushing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the cubed cold butter and cut it into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter until you have pea-sized pieces of butter.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently mix until the dough starts to come together.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, pat the dough into a rectangle and fold it into thirds. Repeat this folding process two more times.
  6. Pat the dough down to 1/2-inch thickness and use a floured 2.5-inch biscuit cutter to cut out the biscuits. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet so they touch each other.
  7. Brush the tops with a little buttermilk and bake for 15-17 min. until golden brown. Optionally, brush with melted butter after baking.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving, and enjoy!
