Ham and Cheese Sliders

These ham and cheese sliders are a perfect tailgating snack—savory, cheesy, and easy to make in batches. Featuring layers of ham and melted cheese sandwiched between soft, sweet Hawaiian buns and baked to golden perfection, these ham and cheese sliders are a sure-fire favorite! 

Ingredients (for 12 sliders):

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 1/2 lb sliced deli ham
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese (or your preferred cheese), cut in half
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected, and place the bottom halves in the baking dish.
  3. Spread Dijon mustard and mayonnaise over the bottom halves of the rolls.
  4. Layer the ham slices evenly over the mustard and mayonnaise, then top with the Swiss cheese slices.
  5. Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the rolls.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 10 min. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 min. or until the tops are golden and the cheese is melted.
  8. Cut into individual sliders and serve warm.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Water

 Filling:

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup tomato sauce

 Method

  1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, milk, and water in a pan, and mix until you form a dough.
  2. In a saucepan, heat a splash of olive oil and add the onion. Cook on medium-high until onion has softened.  
  3. Add the ground beef, and add the salt, water, and tomato sauce. When the meat has browned, remove from heat. 
  4. Dust a flat surface with flour, and roll out the dough into a flat sheet. 
  5. Use a ramekin or cup to cut out circles. 
  6. Add a dollop of beef-tomato mixture to the center of each circle. 
  7. Pinch the dough into a little pocket.
  8. Bake in the oven at 350° F for 15 minutes.
