These chocolate mousse cups are an elegant and indulgent dessert combining the bold flavors of chocolate and coffee. Served in individual portions, they’re easy to prepare in advance and perfect for entertaining. For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle a small amount of coffee liqueur over the mousse before serving.
Ingredients (for 6 servings):
For the Mousse:
6 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
2 large eggs, separated
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream, chilled
For the Garnish:
Whipped cream
Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings
Instructions:
Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
Pour the brewed espresso over the chocolate and gently melt over a double boiler or microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 1 tbsp of sugar until pale and slightly thickened, about 2 min. Slowly whisk the melted chocolate into the yolk mixture until fully combined.
In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar until soft peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture in two additions.
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until smooth and fully incorporated.
Spoon the mocha mousse evenly into 6 individual cups or ramekins. Smooth the tops and cover each with plastic wrap. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
Before serving, top each mousse cup with a dollop of whipped cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings.
