This caramel apple galette is a rustic, buttery pastry filled with tender spiced apples and finished with a drizzle of rich caramel sauce. It’s simple to assemble and bakes into an elegant dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. Pair this galette with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat!
Ingredients (for 6 servings):
For the Pastry:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3-4 tbsp ice water
For the Filling:
3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
For the Garnish:
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tbsp coarse sugar
1/4 cup caramel sauce, warmed
Instructions:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, mixing just until the dough comes together.
Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 min or up to 2 days.
In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Arrange the apple filling in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.
Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, overlapping slightly as you go, to create a rustic crust.
Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
Bake for 40-45 min., or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Let the galette cool slightly, then drizzle with warm caramel sauce just before serving.
