Blueberry Basil Smash

Bursting with vibrant flavors, this mocktail combines the sweet juiciness of fresh blueberries with the herbal aroma of basil, brightened by a splash of lemon juice. Perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up or a dinner party starter! To make it a party-ready drink, prepare the blueberry-basil mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Combine with club soda just before serving.

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 3 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1/2 lemon)
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
  • 3-4 oz club soda, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 basil sprig and a few blueberries for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a sturdy glass, combine the fresh blueberries, basil leaves, lemon juice, and honey (if using). Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently mash the ingredients together, releasing the juices and aroma.
  2. Add ice cubes to the glass, then pour the chilled club soda over the mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Garnish with a sprig of basil and a few blueberries for a stunning presentation.
