French Toast

What is now commonly known as French Toast was traditionally a dish to use up stale bread. In fact, this dish tastes better with dry bread than with fresh one.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 4 Slices stale bread
  • 2 eggs
  • A splash of milk
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • Sugar for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Beat the eggs with a splash of milk and add a pinch of cinnamon.
  2. Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture one by one.
  3. Heat some fat in a skillet and fry the "Poor Knights" until crispy.
  4. Serve with a sprinkle of sugar.
