Homemade mac 'n' cheese with bacon bits

Turn one of your favorite classic American comfort foods into an even more enjoyable dish by sprinkling bacon bits on top.

For the recipe, cook 1 pound macaroni pasta according to package directions. Heat 3 cups whole milk in a microwave-safe dish for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, melt 5 tablespoons butter in a skillet, and make a roux by whisking in 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon flour; stir constantly for 2 to 3 minutes. Pour in the warmed milk, and keep whisking until smooth. Reduce heat, and let simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. When it starts to thicken, add 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder and ground mustard. Fold in 8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese, 4 ounces Swiss cheese, and stir until smooth. Drain the cooked pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking water. Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta, and gradually add the cooking water to thin, if necessary. Top with 6 slices of crumbled, cooked bacon, and garnish with parsley to serve.

These salted caramel thumbprint cookies are easy to make and super delicious!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup / 50g of softened butter
  • 1 egg (divide the yolk and white)
  • 1/4 cup / 50g of sugar
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup / 150g of flour
  • 1 cup / 100g of chopped nuts
  • Salted caramel
  • Melted dark chocolate

METHOD:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the butter, egg yolk, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add the flour and mix. Roll into a ball.

  3. Chill for 30 minutes.

  4. Remove from refrigerator. Divide the dough and roll into 1-inch balls.

  5. Dip each ball in egg yolk, and then roll in chopped nuts.

  6. Place on baking sheet (lined with parchment paper), and press your thumb into the center.

  7. Bake at 340°F/170°C for 12 minutes, or until golden.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool.

  9. Pour the salted caramel into the center groove,and drizzle with dark chocolate.
