French-inspired cheesy bacon fougasse

Fougasse is a special kind of French flatbread, typically associated with the region of Provence but found all over the country and the world. It's got a similar texture to thick-crusted pizzas (not to be confused with deep dish) and Italian focaccia.

To make, pour 2/3 cup milk into a mixing bowl, and add 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast. Stir until dissolved. Add 2 cups flour, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon salt, and mix well to make your dough. Knead for 3 to 5 minutes. Shape the dough into a ball, place in a bowl and cover with a dishcloth to let rise for 1 hour. Plop the dough onto a floured baking sheet, then flatten it out to an oval shape, using a rolling pin. It should be about 1/2-cm thick. Preheat the oven to 450 °F. Sprinkle 3 1/2 ounces uncooked bacon lardons and 3/4 cup freshly grated Comté (or Swiss, if you can't find it) evenly across the dough. Bake for 20 minutes, and serve immediately.

These salted caramel thumbprint cookies are easy to make and super delicious!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup / 50g of softened butter
  • 1 egg (divide the yolk and white)
  • 1/4 cup / 50g of sugar
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup / 150g of flour
  • 1 cup / 100g of chopped nuts
  • Salted caramel
  • Melted dark chocolate

METHOD:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the butter, egg yolk, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add the flour and mix. Roll into a ball.

  3. Chill for 30 minutes.

  4. Remove from refrigerator. Divide the dough and roll into 1-inch balls.

  5. Dip each ball in egg yolk, and then roll in chopped nuts.

  6. Place on baking sheet (lined with parchment paper), and press your thumb into the center.

  7. Bake at 340°F/170°C for 12 minutes, or until golden.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool.

  9. Pour the salted caramel into the center groove,and drizzle with dark chocolate.
