It might look elaborate, but Black Forest cake is a cinch to make! Prepare 2 round chocolate sponge cakes and homemade whipped cream with 2 1/2 cups heavy cream and 1/3 cup powdered sugar. Place 1 sponge cake onto your serving plate. Moisten it with a bit of kirsch or cherry syrup. Coat it with whipped cream, add some canned syrupy cherries and top with the second sponge cake round. Coat the top and the sides with whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate shavings all over. Garnish with fresh cherries, and store in the fridge until ready to serve.
