Serving beer properly is often overlooked, especially when you're drinking out of cans, bottles or plastic cups. But there are certain important factors to take into account when serving up this foamy fave. First, you have to ensure the correct temperature according to type of beer. Light beers should be served very cold between 35 and 40 °F. Pilsners and American wheat beers should be served between 40 and 45 °F. IPAs, Irish stouts and American pale ales should be served between 45 and 50 °F. Stronger Belgian-style beers, Barleywines and old ales can be served slightly warmer between 50 and 60 °F. The second factor is serving beer in correct glassware. A good rule of thumb: the stronger the beer, the smaller the glass should be. Strong, aromatic brews should be served in glasses with rounded tops (snifters, tulips) to concentrate the flavors, while light or medium-bodied beers do well in pilsner glasses. Don't forget to leave a head of 2 to 3 cm on top—this is achieved by pouring at a 45° angle.
