The term "dietitian" is legally protected, which means that a dietitian is somebody who has completed a baccalaureate degree, a supervised clinical program, passed the Commission on Dietetic Registration Examination and completed continuing professional education to maintain their registration. After all of this hard work, they are legally entitled to call themselves Registered Dietitians (RDs).
